A victim or rescuer may be eligible for the reimbursement of childcare expenses for a minor child or an incompetent adult child.
In the event that a parent or any other person who provides support to a minor who is a victim of a criminal offence has to have their other children cared for in order to be with the minor victim, the parent or the person who provides support to the minor may apply for the reimbursement of childcare expenses.
Assessment criteria
A victim or rescuer may be reimbursed for childcare expenses if they are in one of the following situations:
- They are participating in one of the following treatments or activities:
- psychotherapeutic or psychosocial rehabilitation
- physical rehabilitation
- medical assistance
- vocational or social reintegration
- Their partner must accompany them to one of the following treatments or activities:
- psychotherapeutic or psychosocial rehabilitation
- physical rehabilitation
- medical assistance
- vocational or social reintegration
- They have sole custody of a child
- They are hospitalized and their partner must accompany them to the hospital
- They demonstrate medically that they are are physically or psychologically unable to take care of a child
- They have a partner who is unable to take care of a child who is living with them when they are unable to take care of themselves
Amount
Childcare expenses are reimbursable if they constitute an additional expense as a result of the criminal offence.
A victim or rescuer, a parent or any other person who provides support to a minor who is a victim of a criminal offence may apply for a reimbursement.
Non-subsidized or family daycare services
The maximum amount reimbursed is $33 per day, per child.
Childcare at home or at the home of another natural person who is not responsible for a recognized educational family daycare service:
- $3/hour up to a maximum of $52/day for one child
- $4/hour up to a maximum of $56/day for 2 children
- $5/hour up to a maximum of $65/day for 3 or more children

These amounts are indexed on January 1 of each year.

The reimbursement is made upon presentation of supporting documents to IVAC.
