Stephen is on the way home when a drunk driver hits his car, causing injuries so serious he ends up in hospital. Stephen is a crime victim.

In accordance with section 20 of the Crime Victims Compensation Act, the SAAQ plan prevails where a motor vehicle is involved. Stephen will therefore have to submit a claim to the SAAQ in order to receive the benefits and services to which he is entitled as a result of the accident, even though he is a crime victim.

Anna works in a convenience store, and is injured during a robbery. She is a crime victim.

In accordance with section 20 of the Crime Victims Compensation Act, the CNESST plan prevails where the victim is at work when the crime is committed. Anna will therefore have to submit a claim to the CNESST in order to receive the benefits and services to which she is entitled as a result of the incident, even though she is a crime victim.
